Our Property Management Program

Once a property enters our rental management program, we provide multiple services to assist the owner and promote your property.

From extensive marketing, finding and screening prospective tenants and guest, rent collection and maintenance, we take care of it all.

We have a team of highly skilled office management members and two Realtors with the most up-to-date continuing education regarding the Alabama Landlord Tenant Act and the latest in liability issue.

RESIDENTIAL

1. Screening all potential tenants through a national credit service

2. Leases and all other legal documents reviewed on an annual basis to make sure the owner and property is protected

3. Delivery and collection of late notices as well as fees associated with this service

4. Completion of the eviction process

5. Monthly owner payment with statement

6. Collection of security deposits held, according to the law and held in an escrow account for owner protection

7. Annual income and expense reports along with a 1099

Our management fee is 13% of all properties rent for properties.

Joining Thornton Properties and sister-company Mountain Lakes Real Estate 2005 doing administrative work and advertising.
Julie Marion began working as Residential Rental Specialist exclusively for Thornton Properties in 2006.
In 2013 Julie took the position of Office Manager/Residential Rental Specialist.
Julie was born and raised in Arab, Alabama and moved to Guntersville in 2002.

Mark Thornton

Owner / Realtor

Mark Thornton received his Realtors license in 1999, after graduating the University of Alabama and joined his father Robert in property management and listing and selling real estate.
In 2005 Mark co-founded Mountain Lakes Real Estate.
With the retirement of Robert Thornton in 2011, Mark and Lief Thornton took over the reigns of Thornton Properties and are continuing to grow the company.

Lief Thornton

After completing four years in the Army, including two tours of Kosovo, Lief Thornton received his Realtors license in 2003 and joined the family business.
In 2005 Lief co-founded Mountain Lakes Real Estate. Lief earned his brokers license in 2009.
With the retirement of Robert Thornton in 2011, Mark and Lief Thornton took over the reigns of Thornton Properties and are continuing to grow the company.

Robert Thornton

Founder
(January 29th, 1937 - January 6, 2016)

Robert Thornton founded the property management company, Thornton Properties, when receiving his Realtors License in 1985 in Guntersville, Alabama. He received his Brokers License in 1990 and holds GRI/CRS Designations. In 1997, he expanded his management of Single Family Homes & Commercial Buildings to include Vacation Rentals. He has always been very involved in the Board of Realtors, holding the positions of Past President of Marshall County Board of Realtors & Past State Director of Alabama Board of Realtors. Robert is also a Life Member of the Marshall County Million Dollar Club. In 2011 Robert turned the business over to his son’s Mark and Lief Thornton.
